February 7, 2023 Dear Mr. Hughes:
Words cannot express my deep gratitude to you and your crew for all that you and they have done for me As I mentioned to you, you were the only contractor who was willing to take on my foundation repair. The engineering plans were complex and involved some procedures that were new to you, but you were still willing to take on the job. As your work progressed, you discovered one problem after another that had not been recognized or anticipated by the engineers prior to beginning the work. You discovered so many code violations (no waterproofing on the garage foundation, no drains around the foundation that are required by code, etc.) and poor workmanship, etc. Most importantly, you discovered that the water under and around the house had not been diverted by the original builder. All of these things were the fault of the builder and the Chapel Hill Inspector's Office 20 years ago. It is amazing that my house did not suffer more damage than it did. The meticulous and skillful work of you and your crew throughout the month that this project took was beyond my expectations. Your design of the plans to address the drainage problems is a model for any home-especially the ones here in Meadowmont, all of which were built on land with shared water, soil, and topographical/geographical problems, and where all the track homes were built by the same builder and inspected by the same people from the Chapel Hill Inspector's Office. You told me that you approached this drainage problem as if my house was your own home, and indeed, that is precisely what you have done. Your design for fixing the drainage problem and the execution of your design by your crew are of the highest caliber. My neighbors are jealous knowing how improved and protected my house is relative to theirs. The terribly difficult back-breaking labor required by your crew for a month to execute this repair was almost overwhelming to observe. Your colleagues worked incredibly hard and were highly dedicated, thoughtful, and careful. When the work was completed, they left the house not only safer and sounder than the day I moved in 20 years ago, but looking as clean and orderly as could be. All that engineering and hard work are "hidden" out of view under the earth. but I saw it all and captured the process in photographs for anyone to see in the future. I will never forget your kindness and consideration to me; you literally saved my life --in the sense that the house was unsafe and would, eventually, have fallen down the hill. You absolutely saved my home, which is the only real estate I own. For this l will always be grateful. Thank you for all that you have done for me; I will (and have) recommended you to my neighbors and friends for any foundation or masonry work that they might need. Your integrity, skill, and knowledge were evident throughout the course of the project-from our Initial discussion to the final walk-through. I feel privileged to have met you. Thank you again.
Sincerely,
David M. DeMarini, Ph.D.
I highly recommend Billy Hughes and his team of masons. They constructed an attractive and very durable brick walkway to two front entrances to my house. Their work is thorough and carefully done. They do not cut corners to complete the job. When they realized that the subsoil of the site was unstable, they excavated the area until they hit a stable substrate. I was very pleased with their workmanship and business interactions as well as the end result, a lovely walk that produces an attractive approach to my house.

Hughes Masonry recently repaired the sidewalk at our office building. Hughes Masonry gave a quote on the concrete sidewalk. The work was started and completed in a timely manner. The finished sidewalk looks great and we will definitely use him in the future.

I just wanted to thank you again for doing a truly outstanding job on our walkway and patio project. From our first e-mail exchange through completion of the job (on time and on budget!), your customer service was consistently excellent, as was the quality of your work. You responded promptly, really listened to our ideas, made great suggestions to refine the project concept, and kept us in the loop every step of the way. We really could not have asked for a more positive experience and it would be our pleasure to serve as a reference for prospective clients.

Billy Hughes of Hughes Masonry did the masonry work on our Church 15 years ago. Over the past 15 years we have had to do no maintenance on the brickwork. The building exterior was clean when he completed the work and we have not had to clean the brickwork since his completion of the work. The Church Family at North Durham Baptist Church has been very pleased with his work and would invite him back in times of future construction.

It is my pleasure to provide you with a letter of reference for Hughes Masonry. Hughes Masonry served as masonry for Freeman & Associates Contracting Corporation on various restaurant remodeling projects in Raleigh, North Carolina for the past fifteen years. Our most recent project is located on Appliance Court, Raleigh, North Carolina, where the project consisted of substantial interior block, exterior block, and brick work. They provided quality work at a fair price. They clearly communicated any and all concerns or changes. Their team was very professional and efficient. We strongly recommend Hughes Masonry to anyone who is considering their service.
